Passionflower to calm your anxiety

Nature gives us everything we need if we look, and there are some wonderful simple remedies we can use that help almost every ailment known to man.

If you feel constantly anxious and low in mood, why not try something as simple as Passionflower tea. It has a wonderful calming effect on the nervous system and helps you to feel a little more in control.


Where is passionflower from?

Passionflower grows throughout South America and some parts of the southern United States. It is part of the Passiflora family, which also includes passion fruit.


It’s been used for medicinal purposes for centuries and can be really helpful for anxiety and insomnia. It also helps to produce Gamma-aminobutyric acid, otherwise known as GABA, which helps to regulate feelings of good mood. Because it acts as a relaxant, its also really helpful when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.


The other things passionflower has been effective for is reducing menopausal symptoms, such as headaches, depression, anger and insomnia. This flower also has amazing anti-inflammatory properties, which is helpful for general health. It also said to sooth your digestion, which is paramount when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.


How to include it:

You can add dried passionflower to boiling water to create a herbal tea, or you can find night-time blended teas that contain passion flower in most good health stores.


Try having some infused in tea bags an hour or so before bed and your body and mind will start to unwind. You can also find capsules, liquid extracts and tablets. In my experience though, I think the herbal teas make a real difference in helping calm the nervous system and boosting feelings of good mood if you drink regularly. The body knows what to do if you give it the right tools, and often less is more.
